Survey Overview

We are very excited to invite you and your company to participate in the first edition of the 2020 Salary Increase and Turnover Study from Aon, an in-depth exploration of global salary increase budgets and turnover trends, among other topics.

Formed by combining Aon’s Salary Increase Survey and the Radford Trends Survey, this study brings a number of exciting changes to clients beginning this year, including the collection and publication of data twice a year. Our combined study will also bring together thousands of companies who previously submitted data at different times and on different platforms – going forward, you’ll see far more data in one place and format.

A wide range of topics are covered in this study, including:

  • Salary increase budgets by type (overall, general and merit), across 135 countries
  • Mandatory increases granted in global markets
  • Salary structure and promotional increases
  • Turnover rates
  • Hiring/workforce growth
  • Performance ratings usage

All participants who provide a complete and accurate submission by the deadline will receive a complimentary copy of the results.
*The results you receive will be commensurate with the quality and completeness of your submission. E.g. If you submit data for only the U.S., you will only receive only U.S. results. By submitting data for all countries where you have operations, you will receive a full global report.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will Aon’s long-running Salary Increase Survey be published separately from this study?
    Aon’s annual Salary Increase Survey will not be published separately from this study. Instead, we have taken what you love about the Salary Increase Survey and are making it bigger and better than ever before by transitioning to the 2020 Salary Increase and Turnover Study. Combining it with the Radford Trends Survey allows us to extend our participant reach to include the top names in the technology and life sciences sectors. The Salary Increase and Turnover Study will be conducted and published twice a year to provide you with the freshest salary budget insights on the market. Please note that if you were a participant in the annual Salary Increase Survey, you will now be directed to submit data for the Salary Increase and Turnover Study instead.
  • Will the Radford Trends Report still be published?
    Following the Q4 2019 publication of the Radford Trends Report, this survey will transition into the new Salary Increase and Turnover Study. Please note that if you were a participant in the Radford Trends Survey, you will now be directed to submit data for the Salary Increase and Turnover Study instead. In bringing the Radford Trends Survey and Aon’s Salary Increase Survey together, we will now collect data only twice a year and bring hundreds of additional companies into the mix, along with the technology and life sciences insights you’ve always enjoyed.
  • Will there be separate U.S. and global reports?
    While we will still offer separate U.S. and global reports, all data will now be gathered within a single tool. As usual, participants will receive access to results for countries where they have submitted data.
  • What are the submittal requirements to receive the full global results?
    The results you receive will be commensurate with the quality and completeness of your submission. If you submit data for only the U.S., you will only receive only U.S. results. By submitting data for all countries where you have operations, you will receive a full global report.
  • What type of data does this survey collect?
    This study addresses timely subjects such as salary increase budgets and actual increases, collecting data for over 130 countries. Turnover details are gathered in more than 30 global markets. Other topics focus on practices globally, or for a representative sample of countries around the world. The study covers a wide range of topics, including:
    • Actual/budgeted salary increases;
    • Turnover rates;
    • Hiring/workforce growth;
    • Performance ratings usage; and
    • Promotion rates.
  • Do I need to submit data for both editions through the year?
    We recommend that you do and, to make it easier for you, the second edition will include pre-populated answers to repeated policy questions.
  • How long does the questionnaire take to complete?
    It depends on your level of knowledge of current company practices and the availability of headcount and budget details. We encourage you to download a copy of the questionnaire and gather required data, seeking input from others where needed, before completing the online survey to make the process faster and more seamless.
  • When does this survey close?
    Submissions for the first edition of the Salary Increase and Turnover Study are due by March 6, 2020. The second edition of the study will open in June with submission due in July.
  • When will results be available?
    We will publish the first edition of the survey in late April and the second edition in late September.
  • Who is best suited to complete this survey?
    In our experience, this survey is best completed by a member of your compensation team.
  • Will my answers remain confidential?
    Yes, all individual responses will remain confidential. Additionally, survey results will only be presented in an aggregate fashion without specific attribution to any company. The report will include a list of all participants by company name.
  • Will the new industry code changes impact this study?
    If you’re a current TCM or Radford Survey client, you should have received detailed communication outlining why and how we’re updating our industry classification codes. Creating a common and consistent list of industry codes across our suite of survey products, including the Salary Increase and Turnover Study, is key as we harmonize our survey offerings across Aon’s Rewards Solutions practice. For details about the these changes, please click here for TCM Survey products or here for Radford Survey products.
  • Can I access salary increase data now?
    Currently, our 2019-2020 U.S. and Global Salary Increase Survey results are available for purchase in our e-commerce store.
